The dream of making it to the NFL became a reality for former Louisburg Hurricane and East Carolina standout Shavon Revel Jr., who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 76th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Revel, a 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback known for his speed, physicality, and ball-hawking instincts, overcame an unorthodox path to reach the pros. Born on April 8, 2001, in North Carolina, Revel started his collegiate football journey at Louisburg College in 2020. Though the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out his freshman season, he returned in 2021 and appeared in six games for the Hurricanes, showcasing enough promise to earn a transfer to East Carolina University.
At ECU, Revel steadily developed into one of the American Athletic Conference?s top defensive backs. His breakout season came in 2023, when he earned second-team All-AAC honors, recording multiple pass breakups and key interceptions. His defining moment came early in the 2024 season, when he intercepted a pass against Appalachian State and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown, electrifying fans and scouts alike.
Tragically, just days after that performance, Revel suffered a torn ACL during practice, ending his senior season prematurely. Despite the injury, Revel declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, trusting that his body of work and recovery progress would keep his professional aspirations alive.
The Dallas Cowboys, seeking to bolster their secondary with young talent, saw enough in Revel to make him their third-round selection. His versatility and upside make him a promising addition to a defense looking to maintain its edge in a competitive NFC landscape.
Revel now joins a storied franchise with a passionate fan base and a tradition of developing elite defensive backs. With his rehab nearing completion, he is expected to be ready to compete for a role in training camp later this summer.
From Pfafftown's Reagan High School to the junior college grind at Louisburg College, and a rise through the ranks at ECU, Shavon Revel Jr.'s journey is a testament to perseverance and potential: a story still being written in Dallas.
