Hurricanes Split Road Doubleheader at Bryant & Stratton
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Louisburg College softball responded in a big way after dropping the opener, bouncing back with a dominant run-rule victory to split Saturday's doubleheader at Bryant & Stratton (VA).
The Hurricanes totaled 26 hits on the day and showed resilience by turning a tough game one loss into a statement win in game two.
Game 1: Bryant & Stratton (VA) 9, Louisburg 7
Louisburg jumped out early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run from Allie Boone, then extending it to 3-1 in the second on a two-RBI double from Aubre Moore.
Bryant & Stratton answered with a big swing in the middle innings, scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth to take control at 8-3. The Hurricanes chipped away late, scoring in the sixth and mounting a rally in the seventh.
Boone sparked the comeback effort with her second home run of the game, finishing with two homers and three RBIs. Savannah Miller added an RBI single in the seventh, while Moore contributed two RBIs and two hits. Reece Pickett also recorded a multi-hit performance as Louisburg finished with 11 hits.
Despite the late push, the Hurricanes were unable to complete the comeback.
Game 2: Louisburg 19, Bryant & Stratton (VA) 3 (5 innings)
Louisburg wasted no time responding in game two, exploding offensively and scoring in every inning on the way to a 19-3 run-rule win.
The Hurricanes got things started in the first on an RBI from Reece Pickett, then broke the game open in the second behind a two-run home run from Sarah Hess and a solo shot from Pickett.
The offense continued to roll with a three-run homer from Leigh Anna Carter in the third and a seven-run fourth inning that put the game firmly out of reach. Louisburg added four more runs in the fifth to cap off the dominant performance.
Carter led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, driving in six runs. Hess added four RBIs, while Pickett collected three hits and two RBIs. Allie Boone also finished with three hits and three RBIs, and Savannah Miller and Brittany Gingrich each turned in multi-hit performances.
In the circle, Kaylie Cook went the distance, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out four.
