Hurricanes Sweep Atlantic District Championship, Punch Ticket to NJCAA World Series

LOUISBURG, NC - The No. 19-ranked Louisburg College Hurricanes are headed to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series after sweeping Delaware Technical Community College in the NJCAA Atlantic District Championship on Friday at Louisburg College.

Louisburg claimed game one 6-4 before closing out the district title with a 7-2 victory in game two to secure a spot in the national tournament in Spartanburg.

The NJCAA Division II Softball World Series will be held May 19-24 at Tyger River Park. The tournament bracket and matchups will be announced Tuesday, May 12 at 4 p.m. ET on the NJCAA Network.

Louisburg opened the day with a comeback win in game one after Delaware Tech tied the game in the third inning. The Hurricanes broke things open with a four-run fifth inning.

Heather Ryden finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Reah Lee went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Reece Pickett added a double and an RBI, and Allie Boone drove in a run with an RBI double.

Magen Daniels went the distance in the circle, striking out eight while throwing all seven innings. Delaware Tech made things interesting in the seventh with a three-run homer from Kalli Chelton, but Daniels closed the door to secure the 6-4 win.

Louisburg carried the momentum into game two and never trailed after a three-run second inning highlighted by a two-run homer from Boone.

Ryden continued her huge day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two doubles. Boone went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Savannah Miller and Reece Pickett each added RBI. Reah Lee reached base three times and scored once.

Pickett earned the complete-game victory in the circle, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out five over seven innings.

The Hurricanes finished the district championship series by outscoring Delaware Tech 13-6 across the two games.

With the sweep, Louisburg advances to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series for a chance to compete for a national championship.
