No. 25 Hurricanes Open 2026 With Three Straight Road Wins
LOUISBURG, N.C. — Fresh off earning a No. 25 ranking in the NJCAA Division II National Poll, the Louisburg College Women's Basketball team backed it up on the floor with a perfect 3–0 start to the new year, sweeping a demanding three-game road stretch in just five days.
The Hurricanes opened the post-Christmas slate on January 8 with a 69–56 win at Patrick & Henry Community College, using efficiency and physical play to take control after a slow first quarter. Nyla Powell delivered a dominant performance inside, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Louisburg shot better than 54% from the field and controlled the glass with 47 rebounds. Khouri White added 14 points, and the Hurricanes steadily pulled away in the second half to set the tone for the road trip.
Louisburg carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup at Southwest Virginia, earning a 77–61 victory behind one of its most complete offensive performances of the season. Powell was nearly unstoppable, posting 25 points and 12 rebounds on 10-of-12 shooting. The Hurricanes shot 57% from the field and knocked down timely perimeter shots from Quincie Toran, White, and Ziahmiya Adams, building a double-digit lead they maintained through the final horn.
The three-game swing concluded Monday night with a gritty 77–74 win at Brunswick Community College, marking the Hurricanes' third straight road victory. Louisburg showed poise late, leaning on free-throw shooting and composure in the final minutes. Taliya Rowe led the scoring effort with 17 points, while Adams added 16, including 14 made free throws, and Powell recorded another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Despite a late push from Brunswick, the Hurricanes closed out the win at the line and improved their overall record during the stretch to three wins in five days.
Across the three games, Louisburg displayed balance, depth, and toughness—winning in multiple ways and reinforcing why the Hurricanes have earned national recognition.
