Hurricanes Roll Past Fayetteville Tech on Sophomore Night, 87–61

LOUISBURG, N.C. – On a night dedicated to three program cornerstones, No. 16 Louisburg College delivered a statement performance. Behind a dominant third quarter and overwhelming effort on the glass, the Hurricanes pulled away for an 87–61 win over Fayetteville Technical CC on Sophomore Night inside Roger G. Taylor Arena.

Before tipoff, Louisburg honored sophomores Nyla Powell, Ziahmiya Adams, and Khouri White—three players who have helped define this season. Once the ball went up, they made sure the celebration included a win.

Louisburg set the tone early with physicality in the paint and relentless rebounding. Powell was a force all night, finishing with 19 points and controlling the boards on both ends. She surpassed the 400-point mark for her career in the first half and consistently gave the Hurricanes second and third chances around the rim.

The game turned decisively in the third quarter.

Leading by 15 at halftime, the Hurricanes exploded for 30 points in the third period while holding the Trojans to just five. The defensive pressure from Adams at the point of attack, combined with interior rim protection from Powell and Kylie Good, fueled transition opportunities and opened the floodgates.

Freshman guard Taliya Rowe provided a huge spark, finishing with 15 points and attacking the rim with confidence. Jaya Hamilton added nine, Quincie Toran knocked down multiple key threes, and Jewel Brewington gave steady production off the bench with timely buckets and free throws.

White delivered one of the loudest moments of the night late in the fourth quarter, drilling a corner three in front of the Louisburg bench to cap her final regular-season home appearance. Adams added seven points and set the defensive tone throughout, constantly pressuring the ball and disrupting Fayetteville Tech's rhythm.

While the Trojans found some late three-point shooting, the outcome had long been decided. Louisburg's dominance on the glass and efficiency in the paint proved to be the difference, as the Hurricanes shot with confidence and played with purpose from the opening possession.

The win moves Louisburg to 22–4 overall and 17–3 in Region 10 play, securing second place in the conference standings. The Hurricanes also finish the regular season undefeated at home.

With postseason play looming, the Hurricanes look locked in at the right time—balanced scoring, dominant rebounding, and veteran leadership setting the standard.
