Hurricanes Drop Back-to-Back Matches
Louisburg, N.C. — The Louisburg College volleyball team battled through a tough two-day stretch but came up short in a pair of Region 10 contests, falling 3-0 on the road at Fayetteville Tech on Tuesday before dropping a home match to Sandhills Community on Wednesday night inside Roger Taylor Arena.
Against Fayetteville Tech, the Hurricanes showed fight in the second and third sets but couldn't sustain momentum in a 25-12, 25-22, 25-17 setback. Sophomore outside hitter Naomi Chester paced Louisburg with 10 kills and 12 digs, while Savannah Miller and Ashia Teachy each added four kills. Setter Jayleen Barco Cruz dished out 15 assists and chipped in three kills of her own. Defensively, libero Joella Estes anchored the back line with a team-high 22 digs.
Returning home on Wednesday for a matchup with Sandhills, the Hurricanes faced another strong opponent and fell in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-13. Chester once again led the attack with 10 kills, while Miller added three kills and two blocks. Barco Cruz tallied 15 assists and libero Estes continued her steady play with 22 digs.
Despite the outcomes, Louisburg showed bright spots in both matches, particularly with Chester's offensive consistency and the defensive efforts of Estes, who totaled 44 digs across the two contests.
